Nawshin Maleeha is a senior at Macaulay Honors College at Hunter College. She is pursuing a major in Psychology with a concentration in Behavioral Neuroscience and a minor in Chemistry.
Nawshin has been an undergraduate research assistant in Dr. Ekaterina Likhtik’s lab at Hunter College since her freshman year. Her research project at the Likhtik Lab investigates the differential effects of cuprizone-induced demyelination on behavior at the acute and chronic stages, hoping to understand further Multiple Sclerosis. During the summer of 2023, Nawshin worked with Dr. Bruce Carter’s lab at Vanderbilt University to study the mechanisms underlying the p75 neurotrophin receptor’s regulation of lipid metabolism in Schwann cells with implications for insulin resistance. In the future, Nawshin hopes to use the skills learned during her undergraduate research career to pursue research interests in neurodegeneration and neuropharmacology, among others. She aims to become a physician-scientist who mentors, conducts translational research in neuropharmacology, and develops targeted therapeutics for neurodegenerative disorders among. |
