Maylyn Mei is a rising Junior majoring in psychology with a minor in philosophy and public health. In the summer of 2023, she conducted research at Dr. Carissa Cascio’s Laboratory of Affective Sensory Research (LASR), at Vanderbilt University. She primarily worked on the Infant Brain Imaging Study, reviewing structural MRI scans at 6, 12, and 24 months from infants who are at varying risks for developing autism. In New York she researches at Richard Tsien’s laboratory at NYU Langone, investigating the genetic variants that may indicate predispositions for schizophrenia using mouse models. She plans to pursue a PhD and continue to study neurodevelopmental disorders. Though she is interested in a variety of topics within developmental-cognitive and social neuroscience, ultimately she hopes that her work prompts better social connections and understanding between neurotypical and neurodivergent individuals. |
